Edward Telfair (1735 – September 17, 1807) was a Scottish-born American Founding Father and politician who served as the Governor of the state of Georgia between 1786 and 1787, and again from 1790 through 1793. He was a member of the Continental Congress, and one of the signers of the Articles of Confederation. One of Georgia's most prominent citizens, Edward Telfair served three terms as Georgia's governor in the late 1700s. He was the first governor to serve under the Georgia Constitution of 1789. Edward Telfair was one of the many Scotsmen who settled in Georgia during the mid-eighteenth century. He was born in 1735 on his family's ancestral estate in southwestern Scotland near the village of Kirkcudbright. Francis Tennille (1747-1812) was born in Prince William County, Virginia. He served in the Revolutionary War with the Second Georgia Battalion, first as a 1st Lieutenant in 1777, and later as a Captain in 1792. Tennille married Mary Elizabeth Bacon Dixon.
